Jobs in ChennaiThe job market in Chennai has been on the upswing for many a sector. A survey by an HR consulting firm Hewitt Associates predicted that finance professionals in Chennai and Bangalore would get the highest salary increase as compared to other cities in 2004. This was predicted especially in the case of non-banking finance companies. But it was noticed that the highest average salary increase was in the BPO sector. Other job sectors that saw an upswing were software development, logistics and healthcare. It is estimated that there will be a sizeable increase in the number of IT and IT related jobs in the coming year. Mega investment plans by MNCs such as Accenture and IT majors such as TCS, Infosys and Wipro might throw up job opportunities that may exceed one lakh job openings. Other Indian players such as Polaris, ICICI Infotech and Virtusa and iSoft are also contributing to this demand. The past decade has seen a phenomenal growth in Tamil Nadu's software industry development and it is today the second largest software exporting state after Karnataka. The IT Corridor is seeing huge investments in addition to Tidel Park and Siruseri IT Park. Chennai has become a preferred location for BPO set-ups. Cheaper commercial space along with lesser operating costs has given Chennai the edge over other cities. Office Tiger, Global Realty Outsourcing, SlashSupport, Sutherland and Reliance Infocom call center are leading the pack in their demand for enterprising young graduates who are willing to take on this outsourcing work. This is just a peek into the job market that Chennai offers. Keep track of us and we will continue to bring you the latest job trends, the up and coming sectors as well as some of the much-sought jobs in town. |
